Dear Fairview Families,
Our hearts go out to the families and friends of everyone who was impacted by the tragic events that took place last Wednesday evening. Fairview is a caring community of learners, and we are here to support our students, staff members and families.
In our building we have several supportive staff your student can access if they are feeling overwhelmed or anxious. Kory Faletra is our school counselor, Joseph Graham is our Spurwink counselor, and Fairview will have two additional counselors to support our school community as we return to school.
Here are the things we have in place, as school begins tomorrow morning.
- We will have a 2-hour delayed start to school on Monday, 10/30. This will allow teachers, counselors and administrators to meet prior to the arrival of students.
- Students may begin arriving at 10:00. Students who ride the bus should be at their bus stop 2 hours later than their originally scheduled time.
- There will be no morning childcare tomorrow. This will allow the childcare team to meet with the rest of Fairview’s staff. There WILL be afternoon childcare as regularly scheduled.
Here are the ways we keep students safe at school:
- All external and classroom doors continue to be locked throughout the day.
- Each classroom is equipped with hardwired telephones.
- We have a secured front entrance.
- Staff and visitors are required to check in upon arrival and wear visitor badges in the building.
- We also have security cameras that monitor the external grounds of the building; the internal hallways and common spaces.
We would like to share some resources you may find helpful as you navigate this situation with your children. You can access that document HERE. In addition, resources can be found on the Fairview School website.
Please know that we will do our very best to make the transition back to school as normal as possible for students, while recognizing that many may need time to process and connect.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
